2nd and 3rd Base

I realized that recreating the straw model exactly was a mistake because the model was flawed to begin with.

Chopsticks proved to be a difficult material to work with for this project.

I tried to make the base using large, colored pipe cleaners.

The texture and the color of the object distracted from the fox too much.

I chose to go with a material that would cause my fingers to bleed.

The aesthetic result was worth the pain.

The black wire is to give the impression of dirt.

It's a representation of the fox coming out of a hole in the ground.

Base

I created a sort of nest or hole in the "ground" for my fox to emerge from.

On Thursday, I sawed many chopsticks into pieces that were similar in size to the straws that made up my form.

Yellow Fox

on Wednesday, I cut the pieces until
they could fit together. I was almost done.

on Friday night, my yellow fox head was complete

Holes

Last week, I stabbed holes into my chipboard in preparation for sewing.

The drawing on the yellow paper is based on this template I created:

Large Paper Model

I used the net from the miniature model to make a
larger model that follows the proportions of the straw form.

Net Capabilities

 My form has 20 faces

Colors help me to separate individual shapes
After fussing with circles and triangles for too long, I decide to make a miniature model.

A pyramid template I found online proves to be very useful...

My mini model fits on my keyboard.

Straw Form

project: Fennec-fox-inspired head - wire and plastic straws.

Before attempting to create a net for my paper model, I had to make an orthographic drawing in order to see all of the faces of my object.
